These were the influencers at the time when I reference the collection ‘Being A Girl’ but they weren’t my influences. My influences were Cindy Sherman she gave me the understanding and importance of how we process these influencers from my view point which was as a young girl in a layette culture where it was seen has cool to drink as much alcohol as you can and sleep with men because it was liberating. These figures were projected or exploited in the gossip columns by the clothes they were and the songs they sang. After 22 years I am dusting of the collection ‘Being A Girl’ of photographic prints I produced in 2000 and seeing how they hold their form today.
