Turner Prize 2016

screenshot-2016-12-06-at-2-38-38-pmI just watched the presentation of the winner for the Turner prize. Wow!! The art produced is very subjective, like all art. Love it or loath ‘The Turner prize’ I am always fascinated by it. The Winner this year is Helen Marten who produced installation pieces using found objects. Who had just won The Hepworth prize for sculpture.

I always feel uncomfortable watching the awards not sure why, but I think its because the art on show is often under attack, misunderstood or simply a load of nonsense at times! But still this is the world of art and that’s why I love it.

Ben Okri presented The Turner Award to Marten. His speech was very poignant of the world we live in today. ‘Art can be for everyone’ which is true but with the cuts to funding and uncertainty this can become lost.

As for Helen Marten she was so humble in receiving her award and gave a beautiful speech. A very down to earth artist. If you get chance I highly recommend watching.
